Summerville, SC
Ride Leader: Vera Hannah
Our February club ride had some fabulous riding weather in store for us, but we needed to get thru the chill of the morning.
We all met up at the Race Way near I 26 exit 113, and the temperature was in the low 40's, always a fun way to start a ride. The temps were going to be in the mid 60's today so we were all ready for a beautiful day. Under this promise, 13 bikes arrived, ready for a ride south into Summerville.
Snaking along some really nice back roads, we were in constant sunshine and rising temperatures. Our first rest stop featured removal of at least one layer. Spring seems to have finally arrived. Sliding along over some sweeping curved roads, we were looking good; a long line of Chapter 124 bikes out for a day on the road. This was our second club ride for 2007, but it was the ninth ride for Chapter 124 in 2007.
About 30 miles past our first stop, one of the bikes broke down. About half of the group stopped with the bike, and the front half returned in about 20 minutes. We got some really great help from a couple of nice guys who lived close by. They had some tools and even gave a jump to the affected bike. The bike had something very wrong though and we couldn't get it started again. We parked the bike at the house of one of the good people that stopped to help us for safe keeping until the trailer could get there to pick up the bike.
We then continued on into Summerville, a very scenic road on a very sunny afternoon. We all ate pretty good at Sticky Fingers who gave us a private corner for our group. The way home was split into 3 groups, as is our usual it seems. This gives everyone a choice for how they want to do the return, whether highway, shortcuts, or continuing on in another direction.
Vera planned a good ride and Summerville will need another trip to explore a very pretty part of South Carolina.
Ride total: 230 miles
