Women on Wheels led several Starriders (9 bikes and 12 riders ) on a really beautiful ride on Sunday, May 29th. After a short blessing by Patrick Valentie we cruised over open roads under blue skies toward Landsford Canal State Park for a picnic lunch. Ride Leader Carrie Hadden planned a great ride to a really great state park.
The picnic lunch was great. We wound up sharing different picnic goodies like it was a family picnic. What a great group of riders we had this day. We all made new riding friends. It was a hot afternoon but after eating, we all took the hike along the old canal and were rewarded with a beautiful and very rare scene, the Catawba River shrouded in Spider Lilies in full bloom. We learned that this occurs for only 2-3 weeks each year and that the Spider Lily is only in very specific locations, making it all well worth the hike.
Carrie and Women on Wheels deserves our thanks for sharing this ride and, it was obvious from the plans already made for another ride the next day that this was the first of many more shared rides.

We met at the Flying J off of I 20 at 10:00am, there were 9 bikes and 12 riders again this morning. Not all of them were the same ones as yesterday. We were off to Blackville for lunch. What wonderful home cooked food there! After lunch it was off to Healing Springs, where some of the riders cooled there feet in the waters and claimed that it sure did help the rest of the day. From there it was off to find the UFO Welcome Center. After many miles and a few u turns we finally found it, but there was no one around. (Maybe they were abducted or out enjoying the beautiful day as we were) From there we headed home for an evening meal at Logoff’s House of Pizza. Thanks Carrie for a wonderful Memorial day.
