Super Bowl Ride Sunday
Ride Leader: Patrick
We started the day at one of our new favorite starting points the Shell station at exit 82 in Pontiac, SC. People starting arriving about 12:15 to meet for kicks up at 1:00 this means we must be excited about Chapter 124 we had our ride briefing from the leader today Patrick aka kissing Bandit with a moment of prayer from Jim Ballenger, thank you Jim.
11 bikes and 14
people started out the parking lot and took hi-way 12 (Percival rd) a nice
leisurely ride to hi-way 601 in Lugoff, heading toward Camden and then a quick
right on Latchkey, we passed the iron butt award holders home and gave his wife
a few toots of the horn as we continued our travel onto hi way 1 toward you
guessed it Camden to turn left on hi way 601, then a mile or two later a left
on hi way 97 still at a nice leisurely pace. As we traveled this wonderful curvy
road; I’m sure as we passed the marina and crossed the cold lake water hot soup
came to everyone's mind, we continued more of this stretch of road to our first
stop the Shell station in Great Falls and to our wonderful surprise the
restrooms where open. After about twenty minutes or so of cutting up visiting
and talking like fools soup came back to mind and you guessed it the
temperature was dropping. We said goodbye to one rider who wasn’t feeling his
best and the rest now 10 bike 13 people traveled North on hi way 21, yet another
great stretch of road and yes the further North the colder it became. As we
went from two lane to four lane we started to see what at first appeared to be
trash on the sides of the roads, nope it was the remnants of Thursdays ice storm
they had snow in this area and the scrapings were still frozen on the edges.
But that didn't stop us, we were determined for hot soup. We arrive around 3:00
to McAllister deli in Rock Hill SC, every one was happy it is time for hot soup
and a nice warm building to thaw out in. I think everyone had chili, Mike and
his daughter had a baked Potato that looked like it must have been 5 lbs and a
bread bowl of chili. We ate and chatted and became better acquainted of
course a lot of reminiscing going on something about a bandit and Kure beach
still no pictures - no proof any way did I mention today is Andy 40th Birthday,
Ken and Debbie bought him a piece of cake and we sang to him what other than
Happy Birthday. We discussed which roads to head home on and decided to do the
interstate due to the time and temperature, both going away fast. We had fueled
our self's now it was time to fuel the bikes and I 77 we went. We traveled to
the Pitt Stop on hi way 34 talked some more and bid our farewells. I think we
went three or maybe four different directions. It was a great day for friends
getting together doing what they love “biking”, yeah it was cold at times and
the wind was fierce but we prevailed and at the end of our day we can all say
“where to next weekend”. Thanks to all who came and for all that missed we hope
to do it again next year.
